The Prince’s Teaching Institute (PTI)
“The PTI is an independent educational charity created by the Prince of Wales. It believes that all children, irrespective of background or ability, deserve a rich subject-based experience at school – both within and beyond the examination curriculum. It believes that young people’s opportunities in life are maximised by having inspiring teachers, who are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects. It allows teachers to rediscover their love of their subject through Various programmes, and by bringing passionate teachers together, it encourages school departments to make rigorous curriculum choices, promote teaching beyond the test, and enables schools to forge links with other like-minded schools and academic institutions.”
St William of York Primary School received the PTI Leadership Mark school in October 2019 and again in 2022. This was in recognition of our work to develop speaking and listening skills through our curriculum subjects.
St William’s continues to be a member of the Bolton Primary Hub, which facilitates high-quality, subject based CPD for the Bolton Catholic Schools – tailored to the needs and requirements of the schools in the Hub. We have been fortunate enough to have welcomed the following speakers to lead our CPD days:

- Dr Mike Hardman- Salford University
- Professor Becky Earnshaw – CEO Voice 21
- Dr Helen Hardman – The Open University
- Liberty Mellor – The Migration Museum, London
The Hub currently consists of 17 schools. It launched in September 2019 and was been a huge success. Our work with the PTI in our Bolton Hub, recommenced in September 2021.
This year, the focus of our work through the PTI Primary Hub is on geography, with a particular emphasis on fieldwork. Mrs Bolton- our geography lead- is sharing this CPD across school.
