Pupils are particularly proud of the diverse nature of their school community. They said that everyone is welcome and that it is easy to make friends. Pupils understand what
bullying is and they know that it is unacceptable. If it happens, leaders take immediate and effective action to deal with it.
Leaders place a high value on helping pupils to become responsible citizens. Older pupils embrace opportunities to serve others. OFSTED March 2023
At St William’s, we are constantly aiming to be the best we can be for our whole school community. Our pupils hold important leadership roles in our school. They are responsible and mature young citizens who actively contribute to school life. We know that our young people are the leaders and decision makers of the future; they never fail to impress us with their knowledge, sense of fairness and eagerness to make a difference in the world. Lee Hobin, one of our School Governors, comes into school once every term, to hold discussions and listen to our pupils about life in school and takes actions, comments and ideas back to the governing board.
OUR SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our School Council are elected democratically by their peers. They work with Miss Iqbal every week, bringing suggestions, ideas and any concerns about all areas of school life. They are an active group who have influenced many positive changes to school life including; the introduction of new playground equipment, regular visits to the local library and changes to the lunchtime routine.
The girl and the boy with the highest number of votes from their class were elected for the School Council.
Our School Council for this academic year have now been elected!
G.I.F.T. Team
Our GIFT team works with Mrs Coyle to lead the spiritual life of our school. They are always busy, preparing worship, supporting younger children in prayer and working to support those less fortunate than themselves.

- Promoting and hosting our Harvest coffee morning.
- Visiting the Hindu temple, as part of multi-faith week, and delivering their learning back to everyone in school.
- Leading our whole school Remembrance service.
- Taking part in a day of training and formation with our local catholic schools cluster, at Mount St Joseph High School.
- Taking a lead role in whole school Masses and our whole school Carol Concert, through readings and taking part in the offertories.
- Attending and taking part in the BoSCEP Carol service at Thornleigh Salesian College.

CARITAS Ambassadors
Mrs Coyle leads our Caritas Ambassadors. Caritas means ‘Love in Action’. Their role is to speak out for change, take action in their local community, and lead and encourage others to do the same. They also fundraise and raise awareness too! For example, they take our pupils’ Foodbank Friday donations to the local foodbank every week and support at coffee mornings.
ECO Council
Mrs Coyle leads our Eco Council. Their job is to make sure our school environment, the local area and the wider world in which we live is cared for and protected as God intended. They are currently working on a project to write to our local council and local MP, to ask for their help with excess rubbish in the streets surrounding school.
READING BUDDIES/LIBRARIANS
Reading Buddies and Librarians help Miss Lally promote a love of reading across school. They read with younger children, encouraging them to be expressive and confident readers. They run story time sessions in the LRC at lunchtimes and they sign books in and out of our fantastic library. The Reading Buddies are excited to be up and running now that the internal RAAC work in KS1 is completed.

GOVERNOR VISITS

One of our governors comes into school every term, to talk openly with our pupils about school life. They enjoy sharing their learning and making suggestions that are fed back and considered by the full governing board. Mr Hobin asks the children about what it’s like to be a pupil at St William’s and they discuss all aspects of school life from friendships to lunchtimes to learning. He is always interested to hear their one wish to make our school even better!
